RIVER CITY RISING

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the Free Resource Village?

The Free Resource Village is a community space within River City Rising where neighbors share useful items, services, and information at no cost.

People set up tables or blankets to offer things like clothing, books, hygiene supplies, art, mutual aid resources, and practical support.

It’s built on the idea that everyone has something to give and everyone deserves access to what they need.

It’s not a market and nothing is bought or sold. It’s a place to take what helps you, leave what you can, learn about local resources, and connect with others who care about the community.

The village grows week to week as different people bring their skills, supplies, and knowledge to share.

Adding your activity to the calendar lets the community know what — and who — will be present each Sunday.

When people can see who is planning to bring resources, host a table, perform, or offer support, it helps neighbors prepare, coordinate, and show up for one another.

It also makes the gathering more accessible, because folks can decide ahead of time what they want to attend, what they want to bring, and how they want to participate.

Sharing your plans publicly helps the day run smoothly without central control. Instead of relying on one organizer, everyone can see the bigger picture and adjust as needed.

The calendar becomes a community tool that makes participation visible, encourages collaboration, and ensures that no one has to guess what will be there.

What kinds of things can be added?

You can add:

  • Free resource tables
  • Mutual aid projects
  • Art, music, or activities
  • Informational booths
  • Peaceful actions
  • Community services

This space is decentralized, meaning people organize themselves while respecting the shared schedule.

What is Leave No Trace?

Leave No Trace means caring for the space so it looks the same or better after we leave.

At River City Rising, it means cleaning up your area, taking your supplies and signs with you, disposing of trash properly, and helping make sure the corner of MLK and Main St stays welcoming for the next week.

If you bring something in, plan to take it back out unless it is meant to be shared and taken by others.

It is about respect for the neighborhood and the people who live and work there.

By leaving no trace, we show that community gatherings can happen without causing harm, and we protect the ability to keep meeting in the same place every Sunday.

What should I bring?

Bring what you have and what makes sense for your activity. That could be supplies for a free table, information to share, art, music, water, snacks, or simply your presence and willingness to connect.

You are also encouraged to bring anything you might personally need while you are there, such as weather protection, seating, or accessibility items.

River City Rising is community led, so everyone helps make the space work by preparing for themselves and looking out for others when they can.

Why is this decentralized?

River City Rising is community-led. No single organization controls the gathering. People coordinate through the calendar so many voices and groups can share the space without stepping on each other’s time.

The calendar is simply a tool to help neighbors collaborate.

What is the calendar for?

This calendar helps the community organize activities for River City Rising so everyone can share space respectfully and avoid conflicts. It shows what is planned each Sunday and allows neighbors to add their own actions, resource tables, performances, and activities.

River City Rising meets every Sunday at 2 PM at the corner of MLK & Main St.

What if two things overlap?

Overlapping activities are okay.

River City Rising is a decentralized gathering, and multiple things can happen at the same time.

The calendar is there to help people see what’s happening and choose where they want to be.

If your activity uses amplified sound or shared space like the stage, please be mindful of others nearby and coordinate when possible so everyone can participate.
