1) Tell us about yourself in a few sentences.
District 8, Tabitha Zeigler, Democratic Party

I am a humanist. I am a single mother of 3 children under 7 with autism. I am late-diagnosed myself. I believe in helping people. I believe in life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness. I believe that we are more alike than we are different. Human beings share 99.9% of the same DNA. When you understand this you see how frivolous that it is that we would fight over any differences that we may have. I believe that the elite class is purposely and maliciously instigating these differences to maintain power and control over the masses for profit. We can achieve peace and prosperity by working together. That is why I believe in the process of international diplomacy. I have lived in France, Ireland, and South Africa. I was also an international flight attendant for 17 years.

I have had the opportunity to experience different cultures, languages, transportation, educational, and medical systems. Through this international experience I have seen what is lacking in the United States and what is possible. It is not a matter of money, but of priorities. I believe we need to put working class people in Congress who can speak from lived experience and understand the pain points of the population in District 8 because they are currently living them and therefore would be highly motivated for change. I have deep roots in the community. I am currently living on a working farm. I’ve been a union member for over 20 years.

I’ve seen what happens when you take resources and opportunities away from people. This is why I believe in taking AIPAC, JStreet, Pro-Israel Lobby, and corporate money out of politics. We will never reach our goal if all of our politicians are beholden to big corporate and foreign influence. They need to be beholden to the American people. This is why they were put there to speak for the people. I also believe strongly that we should pick people of character that will not shy away from having the hard conversations or speaking truth to power. Genocide is happening. Our government is financing a foreign genocide with American taxpayer dollars against the interests and wishes of the American people. We are attacking the trans community and using them as a scapegoat to establish a more extreme White Christian Nationalist agenda that does not align with what the American public wants. People are people. Everyone’s rights should be codified and protected in the Constitution.

It shouldn’t matter where you were born, what language you speak, what color your skin is, who you love, how you dress, etc. What should matter is whether or not you are a good person. Things Americans do not like: pedophiles, rapists, racists, bigots, thieves, and liars. That is universal. We do not like corruption in our government. We have a lot of people either sitting in office right now, and/or advising our government officials right now that are not good people. It is abhorrent that not one perpetrator in the Epstein Files has been prosecuted, yet we make the Epstein survivors continue to tell their stories and fight for justice. I am a domestic violence survivor myself. I know exactly how these type of people operate. I am someone that stands up for what I believe in. I was raised that you stand for what is right, even if that means you stand alone. I cannot be bought.

I will clean house when I go to Washington. We need to make our government work for Americans again…ALL Americans. We have a lot of work to do. If you want to hold rapists and pedophiles accountable, you send in a domestic violence survivor. If you want more union jobs, you send in a unionist. If you want to protect the land, air, water, environment, and wildlife you send in a farmer. If you want to protect children and the disabled, you send in an autism and disability advocate that has a disability herself. If you want to protect the trans community, you send in a member of the LGBTQIA+ community. If you want to protect immigrants and people that practice other religions, you send in someone that has family members and close friends that are part of those communities. If you want someone that will protect veterans, anti-war policies, and the VA, you send in someone whose family has served this nation since the Revolutionary War and whose aunt was a nurse at the VA. Ultimately, you pick someone that cares because they and their family is directly affected like mine. You can find no stronger advocate than that to fight for you in Congress in Indiana’s 8th District.

District 6, William Kory Amyx, Democratic Party

I am William Kory Amyx and I am running for congress in Indiana’s 6th District.

District 5, Tara Nelson, Democratic Party

I’m concerned about the direction of our country. The divide between the billionaires and struggling families continues to grow while civil liberties are challenged and Congress fails to respond. We need leadership that defends constitutional rights, protects communities, and restores fairness and accountability.

District 5, Jackson Franklin, Democratic Party

I am a grassroots progressive candidate running for Indiana’s 5th Congressional District, I am an Army Combat medic, a paramedic that has worked on the ambulance, and very passionate about standing up for working class people. I am from Muncie Indiana, a triplet, and very inspired by the like of Bernie Sanders and others to help create a system that represents all of us, not just the very wealthy.

District 4, Joe Mackey, Democratic Party

Born Hoosier, Married 37 years. Retired Machinist, former Democrat 4th District Chair

  1. Our campaign is human focused, not taking any AIPAC or Corporate PAC dollars allows us to focus on the people over corporations and foreign interests.
  2. We believe in leading with diplomacy first in our foreign policy and ending forever wars and stopping the genocide committed in our name around the world that only leads to more destabilization.
  3. Healthcare is a human right.
  4. Education and childcare are national security measures we must invest in and take seriously as a country to secure our future to compete on a global stage.

  4. I would work to end all NGOs and ban and hold current NGOs with ties to terrorist activity around the world accountable by prosecuting them.
3) HEALTHCARE: Many Americans delay or avoid care due to high costs, lack of coverage, or limited access to providers. What is your position on protecting and expanding Medicaid and Affordable Care Act provisions that disproportionately serve Black, rural, and low‑income residents in Indiana? What specific steps will you take to ensure all residents can access affordable healthcare?
District 8, Tabitha Zeigler, Democratic Party

Universal Healthcare for everyone.

District 6, William Kory Amyx, Democratic Party

Healthcare should not be something people delay because they’re afraid of the bill. I support protecting and expanding the Affordable Care Act and strengthening Medicaid because they are lifelines for rural communities, working families, and underserved populations across Indiana. My approach is practical and focused on lowering costs immediately while expanding access: * Protect and expand Medicaid coverage, especially in rural areas where hospital closures are a real threat * Strengthen ACA subsidies and close coverage gaps so more working families can actually afford plans * Move toward universal healthcare to reduce administrative costs and take pressure off small businesses and workers * Allow Medicare to negotiate drug prices and cap out-of-pocket costs * Invest in rural healthcare infrastructure, including incentives to bring providers into underserved areas * Expand mental health services and integrate them with primary care * Support telehealth expansion to improve access in rural communities This isn’t just about coverage — it’s about making sure people can actually use their healthcare without going into debt.

District 5, Tara Nelson, Democratic Party

I support Universal Healthcare for all by taxing the billionaires, and reducing spending on wasteful defense contracts.

District 5, Jackson Franklin, Democratic Party

I will go a step further and say we need to catch up with the rest of the developed world and guarantee healthcare as the human right that it is, this campaign is proudly fighting for Medicare for ALL. Too many times on the back of my ambulance people have denied further care because healthcare is just too expensive for them, it’s very sad to see our people not get the care they need all for the sake of the profits of the big health insurance companies. Medicare for all is cheaper than our current system and covers all. We live in the most expensive health system in the world, and yet 120,000 Americans die every year. Expand ACA in short term yes, long term M4A.

District 4, Joe Mackey, Democratic Party

We must have a Medicare for All plan which actually bridges the Rural Healthcare Gap.

District 3, Kelly Thompson, Democratic Party

Expanding Medicaid and the ACA is a bandaid to get us to Universal Healthcare which is now a necessity to make sure all Americans can lead truly healthy lives. Every country that has this program not only saves money through preventative healthcare but also has higher life expectancies (sic) and better mortality outcomes.

District 1, Ben Ruiz, Republican Party

The ACA is what created the unaffordable high healthcare costs, I would work to pass a law were direct insurance subsidies go directly to the American people, I would remove all benefits from any illegal aliens and would cut fraud and waste, which usually manifests in high Islamic extremist areas and not in black rural and low income resident areas.

4) SUPPORT FOR WORKING FAMILIES: Working families across Indiana are struggling to keep up with rising costs for basic needs and need reliable support systems to balance jobs, caregiving, and daily life. What is your plan to support working families with childcare, paid leave, and access to reliable transportation, housing etc., so they can work and care for their families?
District 8, Tabitha Zeigler, Democratic Party

Universal childcare for all families regardless of income, $35/hr minimum wage, Increased maternity and paternity leave, invest in high-speed rail, invest in affordable housing for everyone, mandatory vacation/leave for all workers expanded to 4 weeks per year.

District 6, William Kory Amyx, Democratic Party

Working families are being squeezed from every direction — wages haven’t kept up, and costs keep rising. My plan focuses on lowering those pressures while giving families real stability. * Raise wages with a phased approach supported by payroll tax credits and wage offset credits to protect small businesses * Pass universal healthcare to remove one of the biggest costs facing families and employers * Expand affordable childcare through tax credits and direct support to providers to increase availability * Establish paid family and medical leave so no one has to choose between a paycheck and their family * Increase housing supply by investing in skilled trades and incentivizing affordable housing development * Lower transportation costs by investing in reliable infrastructure and regional transit solutions * Provide targeted tax relief for working families to offset rising costs of essentials This is about making it possible to work, raise a family, and actually get ahead — not just survive.

District 5, Tara Nelson, Democratic Party

The minimum wage needs increased so everyday items are more affordable.

District 5, Jackson Franklin, Democratic Party

I am fighting for universal childcare, Guaranteed parental leave and sick leave, nationwide high speed rail, and building millions of affordable housing to end houselessness and have a government that actually takes care of the needs of the people it is supposed to represent, not just the very wealthy that bankroll so many political campaigns. This is what our campaigns means when we say that we want to place “People Over Profits!” as our campaign slogan says. We must also support working families by having a strong dignified wage, not just a living wage, but one where you can thrive. I also am fighting for a universal basic income, and universal broadband/ internet coverage.

District 4, Joe Mackey, Democratic Party

We must claw back the BBB, Rewrite tax codes to better support working families and small businesses.

District 3, Kelly Thompson, Democratic Party

I have a childcare plan on my website that puts the tax responsibility on Wall St vs Main St. Main St families have paid enough in taxes for programs they need to live their lives. This program not only pays for universal childcare for 3 and 4 year olds, it also expands secondary education without student loan debt as well as wipes out current held debt.

District 1, Ben Ruiz, Republican Party

I would Invest in farming communities manufacturing by providing those businesses with cost effective investments with a ROI for the community itself and remove all avenues were Islamic extemists (sic) have abused benefits for American Citizens, you would have to be an American Citizen

5) UTILITIES BILL: Many Indiana residents have seen sharp increases in utility bills, with strong concerns about rate hikes and corporate accountability, especially with providers like Center Point Energy. What specific actions will you take to hold utility companies accountable for rising rates and ensure that energy remains affordable and reliable for Indiana residents?
District 8, Tabitha Zeigler, Democratic Party

Utility companies will not be allowed to pass on operating costs through consumers, they must contribute a certain percentage of excess energy to a shared consumption grid for overflow access for residents in need. Never turn off power to residents in inclement weather. Not allowed to invest in land for Data Centers. Moratorium on Data Centers until adequate amount of evidence is provided that the area can be safely operated without adverse effects on residents and wildlife. No open loop.

District 6, William Kory Amyx, Democratic Party

Hoosiers are getting hit with rising utility bills while corporations report strong profits. That’s a failure of accountability — and it needs to be fixed. * Push for stronger federal oversight and transparency in rate-setting practices * Require utilities to justify rate hikes with clear, public cost breakdowns * Ban or limit excessive executive compensation tied to rate increases * Incentivize grid modernization and energy efficiency to lower long-term costs * Expand investment in diverse, reliable energy sources to stabilize pricing * Strengthen consumer protections and give residents a stronger voice in rate cases * Crack down on monopolistic practices that limit competition and drive up costs Energy is a basic necessity — not a blank check for corporations.

District 5, Tara Nelson, Democratic Party

These energy companies continue to make record profits, we need to limit price hikes and ensure utilities remain low and citizens are not exploited.

District 5, Jackson Franklin, Democratic Party

Utility companies like Center Point Energy and Duke Energy have been driving up utility cost on working people all for the sake of the profits of their shareholders at the expense of the people. In Congress I will propose bills to tie profits strictly to performance so they stop getting away with overcharging their consumers, and penalize them if they overcharge. We need to block unjustified rate increases, and create a strong federal watchdog over these utility companies. We need massive federal funding to expand publicly owned utilities and co-ops, and make it easier for cities to municipalize (sic) power grids

District 4, Joe Mackey, Democratic Party

If states will not regulate energy companies then Washington must.

District 3, Kelly Thompson, Democratic Party

On my website I have a strong anti trust position and policy. We need to bring back regulation and anti-trust laws. It should not be cheaper to pay a fine and continue to price gouge Americans than it is to be good economic neighbors and partners. Corporations have bought and paid for too many of our lawmakers for too long.

District 1, Ben Ruiz, Republican Party

I would like to get on the enegery (sic) and commerce committee to effectively handle oversight and hearings on the unfair increases or enegery (sic) costs to hoosiers and the country.

6) SUPPORTING IMMIGRANT RIGHTS: What will you do to protect immigrants from the concentration camps and ICE raids?
District 8, Tabitha Zeigler, Democratic Party

Abolish ICE, invest in more USCIS agents, Judges, Lawyers to ensure there is an adequate amount of support to process applicants in an efficient manner and provide a clear path to citizenship that is not based on wealth and profit. Close every concentration camp. Eliminate for profit facilities. Reparations for victims of abuse. Prosecution for perpetrators.

District 6, William Kory Amyx, Democratic Party

We can have secure borders and still treat people with dignity. The current system is broken, and fear-based tactics are not solutions. * End inhumane detention conditions and ensure basic human rights are upheld * Prioritize due process and legal representation so people can navigate the system fairly * Focus enforcement on serious threats, not families trying to build a better life * Create a clear, lawful pathway to status so people can work, pay taxes, and contribute openly * Strengthen oversight and accountability for ICE operations * Invest in modern, efficient immigration courts to reduce backlogs and chaos This is about restoring order to the system while respecting human dignity and the rule of law.

District 5, Tara Nelson, Democratic Party

Abolish ICE, release immigrants, create a faster path for citizenship, and ensure ICE agents are punished for their crimes.

District 5, Jackson Franklin, Democratic Party

We need to ABOLISH ICE! Not just “defund” or “reform”, ICE is not reformable. It is a purposely racist terrorist organization made in 2003 that has done nothing but harm our communities and deport well meaning people without due process. We need a pathway to citizenship, get kids out of the cages, reinstate and expand DACA, and have universal amnesty for all undocumented immigrants in the country and give them a path to live the American dream they have been so long denied by this racist government. No more America the empire, now is the time for America the sanctuary.

District 4, Joe Mackey, Democratic Party

The U.S. has not updated immigration laws in nearly 50 years. It’s time Washington turns it’s attention to this issue.

District 3, Kelly Thompson, Democratic Party

Abolish ICE, investigate and prosecute those guilty of crimes. And close the detention centers. We should not be the nation of cruelty.

District 1, Ben Ruiz, Republican Party

There doesnt exists any such concentration camps unless you are speaking about the camps created by the Obama administration. Legal immigrants are currently not being detained unless they have committed a crime, Illegal aliens who have entered the country illegally should be charged with a federal felony, I would work to enhance the law. Illegal Aliens are not immigrants

7) ALPR CAMERAS: With ALPR cameras routinely violating the rights of Hoosiers, as well as being freely accessed by LEO’s nationwide such as ICE, will you commit to working towards ending the contracts with and use of the technology?
District 8, Tabitha Zeigler, Democratic Party

Defund and cancel contracts with any companies/agencies using this technology. Codifying law that protects the rights of citizens from surveillance by ALPA cameras.

District 6, William Kory Amyx, Democratic Party

Technology should make us safer — not erode our rights. I do not support unchecked use of ALPR systems without strict safeguards. * Require warrants or strict legal standards for access to ALPR data * Limit data retention and prohibit mass surveillance practices * Ban the sale or unrestricted sharing of data with third parties or federal agencies without oversight * Establish clear transparency requirements so the public knows how data is used * Conduct independent audits to prevent abuse and misuse If these protections cannot be guaranteed, then ending or suspending these programs should absolutely be on the table.

District 5, Tara Nelson, Democratic Party

Yes.

District 5, Jackson Franklin, Democratic Party

Yes absolutely. We need to make sure that none of this information is being shared with ICE, and once in Congress I will fight to ensure that. We need to start off by banning these cameras near abortion clinics, health centers, and religious sites to protect personal privacy. I am all ears on this issue and take personal privacy very seriously, don’t hesitate to reach out to me on further policy suggestions!

District 4, Joe Mackey, Democratic Party

Absolutely. This is a Big Brother issue and our privacy is being violated.

District 3, Kelly Thompson, Democratic Party

Yes, we should be stopping the erosion of personal liberty.

District 1, Ben Ruiz, Republican Party

Absolutely not, don’t be rediculous (sic). I would work to enhance it especially against CAIR member who have connections to foriegn islamic extrememists (sic).

8) PALESTINE: What is your position on the Gaza genocide? Is it a genocide?
District 8, Tabitha Zeigler, Democratic Party

Yes

District 6, William Kory Amyx, Democratic Party

Yes

District 5, Tara Nelson, Democratic Party

Yes

District 4, Joe Mackey, Democratic Party

Yes

District 3, Kelly Thompson, Democratic Party

Yes

District 1, Ben Ruiz, Republican Party

No

9) FUNDING TO ISRAEL AND AIPAC: What is your stance on the use of U.S. tax dollars to fund Israel military, particularly in light of concerns about human rights and allegations of genocide? Furthermore, how do you plan to address the influence of AIPAC and other lobbying groups on U.S. foreign policy?
District 8, Tabitha Zeigler, Democratic Party

American tax dollars should not fund a genocide or an apartheid state. AIPAC should register as a foreign entity under FARA and we should get money out of politics so AIPAC, JStreet, and the like cannot bug influence in our politics.

District 6, William Kory Amyx, Democratic Party

U.S. foreign policy should reflect our values — including human rights and accountability. * Condition U.S. aid to ensure it is not used in ways that violate human rights * Push for an immediate ceasefire and humanitarian access * Increase humanitarian aid to civilians affected by the conflict * Support diplomatic efforts toward a long-term, peaceful resolution On lobbying influence: * Ban stock trading in Congress and strengthen conflict-of-interest laws * Increase transparency around lobbying and political spending * Support reforms to reduce the influence of money in politics, including overturning Citizens United No foreign policy decision should be driven by lobbying power — it should be driven by what is right and in the best interest of both Americans and global stability.

District 5, Tara Nelson, Democratic Party

USA should not be funding Israel, Netanyahu should be behind bars. AIPAC money should not be allowed, foreign money is already not allowed in federal elections. Anyone breaking the law needs to be arrested. Campaign finance laws need to be reformed so the wealthiest don’t have the most influence on elections – that’s not a true democracy, that’s an oligarchy. There needs to be limits put on every person and PACs for influencing elections.

District 5, Jackson Franklin, Democratic Party

We must cut off all aid to the terrorist state of Israel. They are committing genocide and ethnic cleansing in Gaza, Lebanon, and the West Bank, all while they start new wars and bomb civilians in several other countries. No such thing as a “defensive” weapon, that is an oxymoron, I will never vote to send Israel a penny and will only ever act as a pressure for them to pay reparations for the martyrs and families they have harmed. I am proud to say I am the only candidate in the state of Indiana that is endorsed by the counter-AIPAC group “Track AIPAC” aka Citizens Against AIPAC Corruption because I have pledged to never take a penny from the lobbying group. I view candidates and congresspeople that do take that money, and represent the interest of the Israeli government over the interests of the American people they swore to serve as traitors. We must ban all special interest money in our politics.

District 4, Joe Mackey, Democratic Party

Yes! We must end Citizens United.

District 3, Kelly Thompson, Democratic Party

AIPAC should be registered as a foreign agent and I will absolutely take NO AIPAC dollars. Further, Israel should not receive anymore funding from us.

District 1, Ben Ruiz, Republican Party

I would ban all NGOs and all special interests groups and funding to any AIPAC, CAIR and foreign entity. Israel is our best friend in the middle east and military support should remain steady.

10) FREEDOM OF SPEECH (on College Campuses) Do you support the right of students on university campuses to peacefully criticize the Israeli government and express support for Palestinian human rights without facing discrimination, harassment, or censorship for doing so? What concrete steps will you take to protect the safety and First Amendment rights of Muslims students and other pro-Palestinian students views on campus and beyond? How will you ensure they are safeguarded from unjust actions both by federal authorities and university administrations?
District 8, Tabitha Zeigler, Democratic Party

Yes; reject the ADL’s definition of antisemitism which conflates real antisemitism with legitimate criticisms of Israel and other Anti-Zionist rhetoric. Strengthen laws against doxxing to curtail damage done by canary mission and like organizations.

District 6, William Kory Amyx, Democratic Party

Yes — students have a First Amendment right to peacefully protest, criticize governments, and advocate for human rights without fear of censorship or retaliation. Protecting that right also means protecting student safety across the board. * Enforce clear First Amendment protections on public campuses and tie federal funding to compliance * Prohibit viewpoint-based discrimination by universities or federal agencies * Strengthen protections against harassment, threats, or violence targeting any student group * Ensure campus policies clearly distinguish protected speech from unlawful conduct * Require transparency and due process before any disciplinary action is taken * Increase oversight of federal agencies to prevent surveillance or targeting of students for lawful speech Free speech and safety go together — we don’t protect one by violating the other.

District 5, Tara Nelson, Democratic Party

I support freedom of speech, its a constitutional right for citizens and immigrants working on becoming citizens. I will help release anyone targeted unfairly by those that do not understand our first amendment.

District 5, Jackson Franklin, Democratic Party

Yes. I am proud to say that I have frequently joined pro-Palestine / anti-genocide student protest on campuses. We need to bar universities from disciplining students or groups for peaceful protests. I will lead Congressional investigations into campuses that have 1st amendment violations and repression, and expose administrations that silence Pro-Palestinian voices.

District 4, Joe Mackey, Democratic Party

Peaceful assembly is a Constitutional Right and must be protected.

District 3, Kelly Thompson, Democratic Party

Freedom of Speech in the United States has been held up around the world as a beacon of the liberty others should aspire to, now we have slowly demolished that freedom in the name of foreign interference. Everyone should have that right guaranteed, even if we disagree with them as long as it doesn’t harm someone else.

District 1, Ben Ruiz, Republican Party

Foriegn (sic) students especially Muslim students attending universities in the U.S. and on a VISA are not subject to the same right as Americans, but we can solve the problem by eliminating all visas from Muslim students who would support terrorist and extremist islamic groups like CAIR

11) RIGHT TO BOYCOTT (Supporting Human Rights): Do you support the First Amendment right of Americans and U.S. businesses to engage in a boycott of countries that engage in human rights abuses? Background: Boycotts supporting civil and human rights, such as the Montgomery Bus boycott against segregation or the boycott of companies enabling South African Apartheid, have been revered throughout American history as an integral part of our political process and the means by which to participate in democracy. However, many states have adopted statutes to curb activity involving Boycott, Divestment, and Sanctions (BDS) campaign activity in support of Palestinian human rights.
District 8, Tabitha Zeigler, Democratic Party

Yes

District 6, William Kory Amyx, Democratic Party

Yes — the right to boycott is protected speech and a long-standing part of American democracy. * Oppose laws that penalize individuals or businesses for engaging in peaceful boycotts * Support federal protections affirming boycott as First Amendment activity * Ensure government contracts cannot require individuals to give up constitutional rights * Increase transparency around laws that restrict political expression People have the right to use their voice — and their dollars — to stand up for human rights.

District 5, Tara Nelson, Democratic Party

Yes, absolutely support boycotting as a first amendment right.

District 5, Jackson Franklin, Democratic Party

YES! We need to support the Boycott, Divestment and Sanction (BDS) campaigns. There are many efforts to make such freedom of expression illegal against the state of Israel, which is a standard above American institutions as you can BDS American companies but not Israeli ones in their proposed legislation. That is absurd. I am a strong ally of the BDS movement and will fight for policies to protect our rights.

District 4, Joe Mackey, Democratic Party

Yes! Sadly we must consider ourselves as a nation to boycott.

District 3, Kelly Thompson, Democratic Party

Absolutely. Boycotting for human rights abuses have been notoriously successful as a form of nonviolent action that has won economic victories over time.

District 1, Ben Ruiz, Republican Party

Absolutely not you will NOT boycott ISRAEL and their right to exsist (sic) in this world. That’s who you terrorists want to boycott right? Keep Americans out of your hate.

12) FOREIGN POLICY: If elected, how would you urgently respond to the escalating humanitarian crises in Palestine, Sudan, and the Congo, and what specific steps would you take? Additionally, how would you approach U.S. involvement in the conflict with Iran, including your goals, limits, and strategy for de-escalation or engagement?
District 8, Tabitha Zeigler, Democratic Party

We need to restart the USAID program or build a new program to help deliver humanitarian aid to Palestine, Sudan, and the DRC. I would also reject any legislation for authorization of military force in Iran and urge for diplomacy. We do not need more sanctions and more violence. We need more understanding of one another and a willingness for cooperation between the U.S. and Iran. After all, Israel is at odds with its neighbors in the region. We should not support the aggressor the state of Israel.

District 6, William Kory Amyx, Democratic Party

America should lead with strength, but that starts with protecting human life and avoiding unnecessary wars. * Push for ceasefires and protect civilians in places like Gaza, Sudan, and the Congo * Deliver humanitarian aid while holding all parties accountable for how it’s used * Lead with diplomacy first — because endless wars cost lives and billions of taxpayer dollars On Iran: * Prevent nuclear weapons and protect U.S. troops and allies * No more regime change wars * Use diplomacy first, military only as a last resort with Congressional approval Bottom line: strong, smart leadership — not reckless war.

District 5, Tara Nelson, Democratic Party

Iran does not have anything against Americans, they made it clear their target is Trump. It is safe to bring troops home immediately, at any time. We need to ensure conflicts are ended immediately to avoid further loss of life. Troops need to come back home and exit these areas. Peace talks are needed among leaders to address the conflicts and ensure peaceful transition going forward.

District 5, Jackson Franklin, Democratic Party

We must start pressuring these nations committing these violent acts by enforcing a national BDS pressure on these nations to ensure human rights are upheld and calling on the rest of the world to join. The US and Israel must pay reparations to the civilians murdered in this illegal war. The goal is peace full stop. We’d be lucky to bring back something resembling Obama’s Iran nuclear deal but I fear as if this regime destroyed those chances.

District 4, Joe Mackey, Democratic Party

Defund Israel

District 3, Kelly Thompson, Democratic Party

First, we should sanction israel for their role in the genocide. Second, we need to restore funding to USAID and immediately send aid to Sudan, Palestine, Congo, Yemen, Lebanon and all places were these places have been affected. Third with regard to Iran, we need to force the executive to know that the war powers reside with Congress and Congress alone and censure any member of our party who votes otherwise. Lastly, we should obstruct any legislation the opposition wants to propose until we leave the war in Iran.

District 1, Ben Ruiz, Republican Party

I would assist by building a coilition (sic) of the Gazan representative and show them how not to ever start a war by murdering innocent Jews, Muslims and others who are Israellis, In sudan I would ask that they stop murdering their own people and creating the crises. I would approve to turn the IRGC into dust freeing the Indigenous of Iran from oppression and death..

13) INVESTING IN ALTERNATIVES TO INCARCERATION: Given that the United States incarcerates more people per capita than any other country, do you support shifting towards community-based alternatives to incarceration, such as restorative justice programs and substance abuse treatments, to address the root causes of crime and reduce recidivism rates?
District 8, Tabitha Zeigler, Democratic Party

Yes

District 6, William Kory Amyx, Democratic Party

Yes — because what we’re doing now is expensive and not working. * Focus on treatment for addiction and mental health instead of locking people up * Invest in job training and education to prevent repeat offenses * End policies that punish people just for being poor * Hold people accountable, but in ways that actually reduce crime Safer communities come from smarter solutions, not just more incarceration.

District 5, Tara Nelson, Democratic Party

Absolutely I support alternative punishments and support ending privatized prisons.

District 5, Jackson Franklin, Democratic Party

YES! We need to focus on rehabilitation and not punishment. I am fighting to release ALL non-violent drug offenders, expunge their sentences and end this racist drug war that has cost the lives of far too many people. Legalize tax and regulate cannabis and other drugs. End capital punishment/ end the death penalty as it has historically been racist as it over targets people of color and is immoral regardless.

District 4, Joe Mackey, Democratic Party

Yes

District 3, Kelly Thompson, Democratic Party

Yes. We can adopt similar models that other countries have with regards to low level, nonviolent offenses. With good economic policy and safety nets, most crime will go down, which will also help with these issues. We need to be a nation that heals, not hates.

District 1, Ben Ruiz, Republican Party

I think this is the first good question. I would support a restorative program, however with oversight so that fraud doesnt occur, and it would be a program that is limited to the type of crime.

14) END LAW ENFORCEMENT PROFILING: Do you support the adoption of federal and state laws prohibiting law enforcement officers from profiling individuals based on their perceived race, color, ethnicity, sex, national origin, or religion?
District 8, Tabitha Zeigler, Democratic Party

Yes

District 6, William Kory Amyx, Democratic Party

Yes — and this should not be controversial. * Make it illegal to target people based on race, religion, or background * Increase transparency so we can identify and fix problems * Support law enforcement with better training and clear standards Good policing depends on trust — and trust requires fairness.

District 5, Tara Nelson, Democratic Party

Yes.

District 5, Jackson Franklin, Democratic Party

Yes! End racist policing at the federal level and have sweeping policing reforms.

District 4, Joe Mackey, Democratic Party

Yes.

District 3, Kelly Thompson, Democratic Party

Yes. The recent SCOTUS ruling allowing ICE to pull over individuals based on their appearance is racist in nature and leaves the door wide open for law enforcement to adopt similar policies. We cannot go backward.

District 1, Ben Ruiz, Republican Party

I am not aware or have been shown an evidence of law enforcement simply targeting individuals based on any of the nonsense you claim, I think we should profile them based on white liberalism and Cair affiliations

15) FREEDOM TO PRACTICE ONE’S FAITH: Do you agree that the U.S. Constitution and state laws are not threatened by citizens privately following their own religious codes, such as Jewish Halacha, Islamic Sharia, or Catholic Canon Law, as long as following such religious codes comply with U.S. law?
Background: In the past decade, more than a dozen states have adopted copy-cat “anti-Sharia” or “anti-foreign law” legislation whose sponsors invoke Sharia as the reason behind the legislation.
District 8, Tabitha Zeigler, Democratic Party

Yes

District 6, William Kory Amyx, Democratic Party

Yes. People have the right to practice their faith freely as long as they follow the law and respect others’ rights. * Protect religious freedom for everyone — no exceptions * Oppose laws that single out specific religions * Keep government neutral while protecting individual liberty Freedom of religion means freedom for all — not just some. To protect freedom of religion we must protect freedom from religion just the same.

District 5, Tara Nelson, Democratic Party

Yes.

District 5, Jackson Franklin, Democratic Party

Yes I agree. We must allow our people to practice their faith freely without fear of persecution by an authoritarian government at both the state and federal level.

District 4, Joe Mackey, Democratic Party

Yes.

District 3, Kelly Thompson, Democratic Party

There already is a freedom of religion clause in our Constitution. These laws state laws are reactionary and xenophobic in nature and should be treated as such.

District 1, Ben Ruiz, Republican Party

This isnt an actual question about religion this is about you pro palestians jew and american haters wanting to enforce Sharia Law in the US which is a no go zone. If you love sharia may I suggest the next flight back to your home country.

16) CIVIL RIGHTS & FEDERAL ACCOUNTABILITY:
Civil Rights Enforcement:
Would you commit to fully funding the Department of Justice Civil Rights Division, including enforcement of voting rights, housing discrimination laws, and equal protection statutes?

Broader Civil Rights Protections:
How would you vote on legislation protecting marginalized groups—including Black & Brown communities, LGBTQ+ individuals, people with disabilities, Hindu, Muslims, and Arab—from discrimination under federal law?
District 8, Tabitha Zeigler, Democratic Party

Yes; Codify protections for all persons against discrimination into federal law.

District 6, William Kory Amyx, Democratic Party

Yes. Civil rights only matter if they are actually enforced — and right now, too many people feel like the system doesn’t work for them. * Fully fund the Department of Justice Civil Rights Division so laws on voting, housing, and equal protection are actually enforced * Hold government agencies accountable when they violate people’s rights * Protect every Hoosier from discrimination — no matter their race, background, religion, disability, or who they are * Increase transparency so people can see how decisions are made and where systems are failing This isn’t about politics — it’s about making sure the law applies equally to everyone.

District 5, Tara Nelson, Democratic Party

Yes, I will commit to fully funding the Civil Rights Division. I will protect minorities and ensure everyone feels safe and has equity in America.

District 5, Jackson Franklin, Democratic Party

Yes fully and unapologetically! Civil rights laws mean nothing if they aren’t enforced. We must crack down on housing discrimination by increasing enforcement of the Fair Housing Act. We must pass the Equality Act to explicitly ban discrimination based on sexual orientation and gender identity in housing, employment, healthcare, and public accommodations. And many other policies!

District 4, Joe Mackey, Democratic Party

I would support defunding the current DOJ until such time as they acted to protect the citizenry from isolation and exclusion in common society.

District 3, Kelly Thompson, Democratic Party

Absolutely. I would 100% support all legislation protecting marginalized groups.

District 1, Ben Ruiz, Republican Party

the Civil Rights Act only applies to American Citizens nott foriegners (sic) with no allegence (sic) to the USA. LGB community already have protections in place as do the mentally ill in TQ+

17) VOTING RIGHTS & DEMOCRATIC ACCESS: John R. Lewis Voting Rights Act: Indiana continues to rank near the bottom nationally in voter turnout, and Black voters face documented barriers. If elected, would you vote for and co‑sponsor the John R. Lewis Voting Rights Advancement Act to restore federal oversight in states with histories of voter suppression? Why or why not?
District 8, Tabitha Zeigler, Democratic Party

Yes; it is the obligation of the government to serve all of its citizens regardless of color, creed, orientation. Protecting these rights are essential to our democracy.

District 6, William Kory Amyx, Democratic Party

Yes, I would support and co-sponsor the John R. Lewis Voting Rights Advancement Act. Voting is the foundation of our democracy — and if people feel like their voice doesn’t matter or can’t be heard, the system breaks down. * Restore federal oversight where there is clear evidence of voter suppression * Expand access to early voting and make voting more convenient for working people * Protect election integrity while making sure eligible voters aren’t blocked from participating * Improve voter education so people understand how and where to vote This is about making voting secure, accessible, and fair — for everyone.

District 5, Tara Nelson, Democratic Party

Yes, Indiana’s voter turn out is low. I hope the next SOS proposes to make it easier to see what candidates support on the ballot, and share some kind of state wide voter guide, so voters don’t need to read surveys like this! Blythe Potter is proposing these items as SOS candidate.

District 5, Jackson Franklin, Democratic Party

YES. Along with many other election reforms to expand democracy. We must have automatic voter registration, make Election Day a national holiday, have ranked choice voting (allowing 3rd parties to run and win), and pass the “For The People Act” which will ban partisan Gerrymandering nationwide from both parties.

District 4, Joe Mackey, Democratic Party

We must pass the John Lewis Voting Rights Act. It is imperative we protect the rights of Citizens to participate fairly in the political process.

District 3, Kelly Thompson, Democratic Party

YES! I would vote AND co-sponsor if given the opportunity. This legislation not only reaffirms voting rights, but also ends gerrymandering as well. We should have pushed harder for this legislation the first time it was introduced.

District 1, Ben Ruiz, Republican Party

Black Voters do not face any barriers, in fact no American citizen does, many whites and muslim extremists pedal the false narrative in order to create kaos (sic).

18) INDIGENOUS PEOPLE RIGHTS: Indigenous communities continue to face systemic inequities rooted in historical and ongoing injustices. What concrete actions will you take to protect and advance the rights of Indigenous peoples on this land specifically in safeguarding voting rights, honoring land sovereignty, housing equity, and upholding equal protection under the law?
District 8, Tabitha Zeigler, Democratic Party

Land Back, Water Rights, Honoring the over 300 treaties that the U.S. Government has broken with the tribes of this nation. Investing in culture and language programs to protect and preserve the dying languages of this nation. Investing in programs to eliminate the rape and murder of Indigenous Women, Children, and Two-Spirit people native to this land.

District 6, William Kory Amyx, Democratic Party

We have a responsibility to recognize past injustices and take real steps to do better. * Uphold tribal sovereignty and respect treaty obligations * Ensure Indigenous communities have equal access to housing, healthcare, and economic opportunity * Protect voting access and remove barriers that disproportionately affect Indigenous voters * Support infrastructure and development investments that are guided by and benefit Indigenous communities * Strengthen consultation requirements so decisions aren’t made without their voice at the table Respect and partnership — not neglect — should define how we move forward.

District 5, Tara Nelson, Democratic Party

Indigenous people have special rights currently. I support protecting those rights and listening to additional needs of the tribes..

District 5, Jackson Franklin, Democratic Party

The system injustices to indigenous people continue to this day and we must stand up and fight for justice. We must fight for a Native Voting Rights Act to eliminate barriers like limited polling locations, voter ID mismatches, and lack of language access on reservations. We must also establish a federal Land Back commission to return federally controlled lands to tribes where appropriate. Once in Congress I will continue to fight to expand and permanently authorize the Violence Against Women Act provisions that allow tribes to prosecute non-Native abusers.

District 4, Joe Mackey, Democratic Party

We must engage in tribal consultation to better understand the requirements indiginous people see as necessary to provide such protections. This means keeping corporate interest inline with respect territorial boundaries.

District 3, Kelly Thompson, Democratic Party

We need to restore ICWA. Even though the SCOTUS upheld the law, Native Children are still being taken from their indigenous communities. I would also advocate for funding for NARF, the Native America Voting Rights Fund that supports voting rights projects on tribal lands. Third, I would make sure that HUD is expanded to ensure that our Tribal Councils have access to their funding that has recently be cut and our Indigenous communities have expanded access to their resources.

District 1, Ben Ruiz, Republican Party

You do not represent indigenous people. There is currently no injustice happening to Indigenous people, as I am Indigenous to the Americas. I would ban communism from the United States

19) ENVIRONMENTAL JUSTICE: Extreme weather, rising energy costs, and environmental hazards are affecting communities across Indiana. What is your stance on federal environmental justice legislation to ensure that Black and low‑income communities are not disproportionately exposed to pollution or harmful infrastructure projects? What actions will you take to address climate change and protect communities from its impacts?
District 8, Tabitha Zeigler, Democratic Party

We must put forth legislation that protects black, brown, and low-income areas from Data Centers and harmful infrastructure projects. Any proposal to bring infrastructure into a community must get a 3/4 approval by the residents living in that area. A full assessment of environmental damage must be reported in advance to a public meeting that is publicly posted to ensure community participation.

District 6, William Kory Amyx, Democratic Party

This is about protecting people, not just the environment. * Ensure no community — especially low-income or minority communities — is disproportionately exposed to pollution * Invest in clean energy and infrastructure to lower long-term energy costs * Hold corporations accountable when they harm communities or cut corners * Support disaster preparedness and resilience to protect Hoosiers from extreme weather * Create good-paying jobs in energy, construction, and infrastructure as we modernize our systems We can lower costs, create jobs, and protect our communities at the same time — and that’s exactly what we should be doing.

District 5, Tara Nelson, Democratic Party

I support protecting vulnerable communities and ensuring safety for all citizens. I support alternative energy solutions such as solar power to ensure power is clean.

District 5, Jackson Franklin, Democratic Party

Our ecosystems are not simply dying, they are being murdered by the fossil fuel industry. I am in favor, along with Rep AOC, with fighting for a Green New Deal, a strong carbon tax on the fossil fuel industries, and eventually we need to nationalize the fossil fuel industry because they are too dangerous to be kept alive. They will destroy the planet for greed if we allow them, yet again we need a system that places “People Over Profits!”. We also need to make sure that data centers stop destroying the environment and must invest in closed loop water systems so they stop driving energy cost up while destroying the environment.

District 4, Joe Mackey, Democratic Party

we must rebuild the EPA and restore it’s federal authority over states unwilling to protect itself from toxic destruction.

District 3, Kelly Thompson, Democratic Party

Our jobs and energy program addresses this exact issue in combination with our housing plan. Coming from the midwest we see extreme weather up close, We want our homes to be built with sustainable materials as well as energy efficient mechanicals to not just lower maintenance but also withstand the weather extremes climate change is putting on the weather we experience. These plans have zero means testing and work in any area, urban, rural, suburban and allow for small contractors to have first bite at the apple for contracts.

District 1, Ben Ruiz, Republican Party

Climate Change only esists (sic) in the minds of whites liberals and who are retarded and muslim extremists who wish death upon America.
